Aims & Activities
The key aim of HEALTHY COMMUNITIES is to strengthen the health literacy of adults from different social groups.
This also requires greater awareness of the importance of health skills for individual and social resilience. To achieve this, we are initiating a transnational exchange of ideas, developing and piloting social space-orientated learning opportunities for adults.
HEALTHY COMMUNITIES brings together expertise from education, health, and community work from four EU countries (DE/AT/IT/PL).
Together, we develop low-threshold health education opportunities and work with community institutions to develop action plans for locating them in the district. As a link between the learning opportunities and the potential users, we install a system with qualified guides who reach adults from different social groups and activate them to participate.
In each community, a group of guides is set up who are located in the community and act as mediators in health education. In a further training course, they learn basic skills in health prevention, how to prepare and communicate customized information materials, and how to pass on tips and exercises for dealing with socio-psychological stress. They also acquire media skills for dealing safely with information (e.g. recognizing fake news) and thus strengthen their digital literacy. The guide model also strengthens socio-spatial networking.
In the framework of adult education, volunteers are supported and strengthened in their commitment through further training, and other interested volunteers and honorary staff are motivated to participate socially in health education and information.
